![]() I would like to present a small village in Polish administrative unit of Nowy Targ. Szlembark borders on a commune of Ochotnica Dolna and Maniowy. This village is situated near Czorsztyńskie Lake. Szlembark is located at 550 m above sea level, at the foot of the mountain of Kotelnica in mountain range of Lubań, by the Dunajec River. There extends a beautiful view of the Tatra Mountains. Buildings are near a road which connects Huba and Knurów. In the oldest documentation, we see a name of this village as "Slembark". The history: The village was founded in the 15th century by order of "klaryski" (nuns), which came from Stary Sącz. We can see there the tradition of embroideries etc. Szlembark was praised by graphic artist Tadeusz Kulisiewicz. This village is often visited by painters. Information: How can you get there? National Transport Company (PKS) - the nearest bus stops are in Knurów, Huba or Dębno. The nearest railway station is in Nowy Targ (16 km away). The post office is in Dębno. The postcode (zip code) is 34-434 ![]() ... we get off on the Knurów bus stop. We go in direction of the bridge on the Dunajec River. It was washed away during flood in 1997. Construction of a new, bigger one is almost finished. Below you can see photos of that bridge from January 1999, July 1999 and April 2000.
We cross the bridge. In the back we can see that view:
We reach to the intersection called "krzyżówka". There is a signpost "Szlembark 1". ![]() We cross the small bridge then we pass a house with number one in Knurów. After that house we can see few new houses, which was built between Knurów and Szlembark. ![]() On the photo above, on the right side there are two ways. One of them goes to a private household, the second to the centre of Szlembark. We pass a boundary between Knurów and Szlembark. That boundary is Graniczny stream. Next we can see the first houses of Szlembark. Behind that bend (a photo below) there are following houses and we can spot the chapel tower.
We are near that yellow house. We can turn and we see the road to Szlembark and estate on the west past this village.
The next place, in this trip through Szlembark, is chapel (a photo on the top of this web page). Near the chapel there is a small cemetery, where are buried people who died of cholera, typhus and poverty in 18th and 19th century. ![]()
Then in this trip through Szlembark, we pass the road which connects Szlembark and "Studzionki". After that we turn left. On the right hand we have Kotelnica stream. On the foreground there is "Sołtysi garden".
If we turn we'll see that:
We pass the bridge on this stream. The road begin steeping, but not so far as at the beginning of Szlembark.
After that we pass an intersection and a narrow, dangerous bend. We can see a Primary School in Szlembark. This school is on the right side of the road.
On the left side there is the fire station.
We turn right and we have straight part of this trip. If we turn we'll see that view (a photo was made during sunset). On the photo below, on the left there is "Gurosiówka", on the right - "Dzidówka".
On the left side of the road we can see houses. There are many houses like that in Szlembark. They was built in seventies years.
We pass another stream. The road turns left, and there is a bend (180 degrees). After that we leave the last houses in Szlembark on the east part of Szlembark. Here we can see this beautiful view. There is the last hill!
We stop for a moment to look on a magnificent view of Czorsztyńskie Lake. This place is called "Ogródek" (small garden).
This is the end of the trip through Szlembark. One of the last view on the lake, from place called "Przylasek". I think that this place in for example 20 years will be the centre of Szlembark and nobody will remember that here were fields. We finish this trip. We go to road which connects Krościenko and Nowy Targ. The bus stop at Huba is not very far.
Other photos:
This photo was made from Dunajec River in the second part of eighties in 20th century. ![]()
